Ever been terrified & compelled at the same time?  Like having something you must do..  But at the same time fear it?

I call that awkward marriage of emotions courage.  And while it doesn’t feel good, my attitude is generally bring it on!  It’s fear in motion toward a greater good.  It’s the feeling of growth.

That’s exactly how I felt when it came time to see the Balinese medicine man.

I came to Bali to relax & heal from surgery.  Ubud’s tropical weather, spirituality and healers were the draw.  The locals recommended seeing the Bailan or Balinese tradition healer Tjokorda Rai.

I heard rumors of “patients” being aggressively poked, prodded & spit on.  Yep, having chewed up herbs spit on them as well as getting soaked with liquids all before a crowd of waiting patients.  Maybe you can see why I was a bit nervous and not exactly feeling Eat, Pray, Love.  And in fact, meeting Tjokorda Rai was more like… Scream, Cry, Laugh!

A few more deep breaths and then I was called up…

I laughed, I cried, I made the kind of sounds only heard in horror movies.

Watch the video to hear my entire experience with Tjokorda Rai:

I love that the medicine man prescribed me nature.

Bali is just what the doctor ordered – Mother Nature at her fiercest & most nurturing.

If you can relate to being a bit disconnected from nature, I sincerely hope you can take a break from commanding your soldier and make time to swallow a smile from the meadow 🙂

I would love to hear about one of your best memories in nature!  If you feel inspired, please share it with me in the comments below.

Love Kirsten
